Zomato is introducing a new feature called Instant Balance. This will allow users to receive change directly into their Zomato Money account when paying with cash. CEO Deepinder Goyal announced this feature on X. He explained that if a delivery executive doesn’t have exact change, the remaining amount will be credited to the customer’s Zomato Money account. He expressed gratitude to Tata Group-owned Bigbasket. They have inspired this idea, as they offer a similar feature. This feature simplifies the process of getting exact change.

How to use Zomato Instant Balance Feature?

Zomato Money can be used for future orders, whether delivery or dining out. This feature is particularly beneficial for cash-on-delivery customers, a significant portion of Zomato’s user base. Many Indians prefer online payments, but cash transactions remain popular, especially in areas where digital payment infrastructure is less developed. The new feature helps address common issues when the delivery person doesn’t have the right amount of change, making transactions smoother and more convenient.

However, Zomato has yet to clarify how long the balance in the Zomato Money account will remain valid. This uncertainty leaves some questions about the feature’s long-term usability. Recently, Zomato also launched another feature allowing customers to delete past orders from the app, offering more privacy and control over their purchase history. Additionally, last month, Deepinder Goyal unveiled a new app called “District.” This app will provide services beyond food delivery, including dining, movie and sports ticketing, live performances, staycations, and shopping. While Zomato and Blinkit focus on home service, the company is now expanding into the outgoing market to compete with platforms like BookMyShow, broadening its service offerings.
