Y Combinator’s Group President, Sam Altman, posted in a blog post about Qi Lu joining the company for the launch of Y Combinator (YC) in China.
YC hired Qi Lu, a former Microsoft and Baidu executive, because Altman said that he is one of the most impressive technologists he knows. He also said that he’s been trying many years to recruit Lu.
Lu will be the one who will manage YC in China. The company is excited for Lu to become the Founding CEO of YC China and to build a long-term local organization that will merge the excellence of Silicon Valley and China and create a lot of innovation. Lu will be also the Head of YC Research, company’s non-profit research lab. The company also plans to have another research lab in Seattle.
Altman added “YC’s greatest strength is our founder community and with the launch of YC China we believe we have a special opportunity to include many more Chinese founders in our global community.” He is also thankful to Eric Migicovsky, a partner at YC, because he contributed a huge amount of effort to extend the company in China.
