Xiaomi is all set to launch its next flagship smartphone series, the Xiaomi 14 series, on October 26. The lineup is expected to include two models, the Xiaomi 14 and the Xiaomi 14 Pro. Both models are tipped to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, making them among the first smartphones to feature the new chip.

Design and display

The Xiaomi 14 series is expected to have a new design that is different from the Xiaomi 13 series. The Xiaomi 14 is rumoured to have a 6.36-inch flat OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Xiaomi 14 Pro is said to have a 6.67-inch curved OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Both displays are expected to have high resolution and brightness. The Xiaomi 14 is rumoured to have a 1080p resolution and a 1,000 nits peak brightness, while the Xiaomi 14 Pro is said to have a 2K resolution and a 1,500 nits peak brightness.

Processor and memory

The Xiaomi 14 series is expected to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is Qualcomm’s next flagship chipset and is expected to be a significant upgrade over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is rumoured to be manufactured using a 3-nanometer process and is expected to have improved performance and efficiency. The chip is also expected to have a new integrated graphics processor that will offer better gaming performance.

The Xiaomi 14 series is also expected to come with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Camera

The Xiaomi 14 series is expected to have a triple-camera system on the back. The main sensor is rumoured to be a 50MP sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS). The other two sensors are rumoured to be a 13MP ultrawide sensor and a 5MP telephoto sensor.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro is also rumoured to have a triple-camera system on the back, but with a few differences. The main sensor is rumoured to be a 50MP Sony IMX989 sensor with OIS. This sensor is larger than the sensor in the Xiaomi 14 and is expected to offer better image quality.

The other two sensors in the Xiaomi 14 Pro are rumoured to be a 13MP ultrawide sensor and a 10MP telephoto sensor with OIS. The telephoto sensor is said to offer 3.5x optical zoom.

Battery and software

The Xiaomi 14 series is expected to have a large battery capacity. The Xiaomi 14 is rumoured to have a 4,860mAh battery, while the Xiaomi 14 Pro is said to have a 5,100mAh battery.

Both phones are also expected to support fast charging, with the Xiaomi 14 supporting 65W charging and the Xiaomi 14 Pro supporting 120W charging.

The Xiaomi 14 series is expected to ship with Android 14 out of the box. Xiaomi’s own custom skin, MIUI 14, will be pre-installed on top of Android 14.

The addition of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and wireless charging support makes the Xiaomi 14 series even more appealing. If the phones are priced competitively, they could be some of the best flagship smartphones of 2024.
