One of the world’s most impressive rail networks already exists in China, but the country plans on expanding it underwater. China is working on the world’s first transcontinental underwater bullet train.

They plan to design an undersea transit system that will allow people to travel 8,078 miles covering China, Siberia, Eastern Russia, Alaska, the Yukon and British Columbia and finally the USA.

According to estimates, it will cost $200 billion to complete the “China-Russia-Canada-America” train, making it the most expensive government project in history.

The ambitious project is 1800 miles longer than the Trans-Siberian railroad. English Channel tunnel is 4 times smaller than this.

This would reduce the travel time from China to the USA to two days. The estimated speed of travel is 250km/h.

This train line would be connected to the already high-speed rail network – Ningbo in Shanghai to Zhoushan.

This multi-billion dollar project is a 76.99km of Yong-Zhou railway plan. It also consists of a 16km underwater section.

In addition, a road-rail bridge will connect parts of the Zhoushang archipelago.

As Zhoushang is non very popular with international tourists, the government hopes to reverse that with the Yong – Zhou’s Railway plan.

With the addition of the Yong-Zhou rail plan, the estimate is approximately $25.2 billion by the East Asian Country.

The work for transcontinental underwater bullet train started in 2019. It was kept on hold in August 2021 because China is critical of the cost of the project… It’s estimated to be complete by 2025.

There is huge speculation about the probable completion of the under seas rail-trail between two superpowers.

The original trail of the bullet train was crossing the Bering Strait (the narrow crevice of ocean connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans).

Right now the countries are in “major discussions” as “Russia has been thinking about it”.

This project would be a huge boost to the environment. China is known to invest much more into train journeys over other projects to cut down on exhaust and Carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles.

This high-speed rail travel is deemed to be very environmentally friendly. It is for passengers and freight and cargo alike and it’s exceptionally efficient. It’s said to be “convenient, safe, and lower environmental impact”.

Critics are considering the China-Russia-Canada-America train to futile and wrong investment. They rest their argument on the fact that ocean shipping routes exist and are already well in use.

Concern has been raised about the previous and ongoing tension between China and Russia that might interfere with the project’s effectiveness.
