WhatsApp will soon also be hopping aboard the passkey bandwagon, joining the likes of PayPal, Uber, and TikTok. The platform beta testing passkeys on iOS, which will allow iPhone users to verify their accounts without using the usual 6-digit OTP code. Passkeys are a new form of authentication that use biometric or facial recognition instead of passwords or codes.

What are passkeys and why are they better than codes?

 

Passkeys are a type of security option that many websites and apps are adopting. They are basically digital credentials generated for each account that let you login without a password – or in the case of WhatsApp, without an OTP.

 

Passkeys are better than codes for several reasons. First, they are more convenient and faster, as you don’t have to wait for a code to be sent to your phone or email, or enter it manually. Second, they are more secure, as they are impossible to steal or intercept. Third, they are more private, as they don’t require you to share your phone number or email address with anyone.

 

How to use passkeys on WhatsApp?

 

WhatsApp has already introduced passkeys for Android users last year, and is now planning to roll out the feature for iPhone users in a future update. According to WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp updates, WhatsApp is developing a new section in the app where users can configure their own passkeys.

 

To use passkeys on WhatsApp, you will need to update the app to the latest version, and follow these steps:

– Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
– Tap on your profile picture in the top-right corner.
– Go to Settings > Passkeys.
– Tap on Create Passkeys.
– Follow the on-screen instructions.

 

Once you have set up your passkey, you will be able to log into your WhatsApp account on any device by using your Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode. You will no longer need a 6-digit code to verify your account.

 

Do note that since this feature is currently undergoing beta testing, it may take a while to show up on your device.
