WhatsApp is currently testing new generative AI features for select Android and iOS users. These features include a Perplexity AI-like user interface powered by Meta’s Llama, with the goal of enhancing the user experience. Users can access this AI feature by chatting with Meta AI within the app, where they can ask questions and explore the power of Llama-driven AI. The chat prompt simply says, “Ask Meta AI anything.”
This is not the first time that Meta has experimented with generative AI on WhatsApp. A few months ago, the company tested AI-generated images for a limited user base. Now, users can generate images using text prompts, making it easy to turn their ideas into visual content within the app.
Users should not worry about their messages, as they remain end-to-end encrypted and are never sent to Meta. While Meta may use AI messages to improve quality, personal conversations are always kept private. Before using the Meta AI experience, users must agree to Meta’s AI terms.
Meta’s AI features are not limited to WhatsApp. Instagram, Meta’s photo and video-sharing platform, is also testing Llama-powered AI features. Users can generate captions and hashtags effortlessly. Additionally, Instagram is gearing up for an AI-powered chatbot shortly. Keep an eye out for these features as they roll out to more users.
