WhatsApp is reportedly working on a feature for WhatsApp web client that allows the users to pick usernames. It is speculated that for the sake of privacy on WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform is allowing users to connect with others using usernames instead of mobile numbers.
Usernames on WhatsApp
According to WhatsApp feature tracker, users might be able to curate their profiles on WhatsApp using usernames on the web client. This feature will reportedly offer more flexibility while connecting with other users on the instant messaging platform by eliminating the need to connect using phone numbers. The feature is set to be still under development and is not available to all WhatsApp web client users.
The description of the feature reads, “Your friends and family can contact you on WhatsApp using this username”. It further adds that the username will be shown in place of the phone number to “protect the user’s privacy”.
Other new upcoming features of WhatsApp
According to a report, WhatsApp is currently testing a feature that would be able to translate messages using the technology of Google for Android devices. This new feature will be able to allow users to translate messages in other languages. This translation feature might not use the life translation technology of Google and will work on- device. This means that the data is stored locally instead of being sent to a cloud server. Users can implement this feature to translate messages on the instant messaging platform. As of now the reports claim that the feature was noticed in the WhatsApp for Android app version 2.24.15.8.
