With more than 70% of the global market for mobile operating systems, Android is now the most widely used OS. As is customary, Google will formally introduce the upcoming version, Android 15, on May 14 at its annual developers’ conference, Google I/O.

The forthcoming Android 15 is anticipated to have numerous generative AI features, such as the native integration of Gemini AI within the OS, new and improved first-party apps, and more, in light of current advancements in the tech industry. Although the Android 15 beta has been accessible to developers for some time, Google has not yet disclosed the majority of the highly anticipated features, which are scheduled to be unveiled at I/O 2024.

Before then, this is what we currently know about the upcoming major release of the Android operating system:

What to anticipate with Android 15

It’s likely that Android 15 will integrate AI more deeply. Although Google has long provided Pixel smartphone owners with a variety of AI experiences, with Android 15, the company is probably going to include these functions directly into the operating system. This implies that these devices will work with any phone running Android 15, not just Pixel phones.

With Android 15, Google might either fully replace Assistant with Gemini or include some of the AI capabilities of Gemini into the Google Assistant. These features might include a chatbot, an image creator, and other things.

Every Android smartphone running the Android 15 OS will be able to use the Circle search feature, which is exclusive to Google and Samsung.

Additionally, Google may integrate AI into its various apps, including Docs, Sheets, Photos, and more. Additionally, there may be some exciting announcements. All of these features, which Google will unveil on Tuesday, won’t be accessible to the general public until the second half of 2024. There will be differences in these characteristics’ availability amongst original electronics manufacturers, or OEMs.

Following the annual developers’ conference at Google I/O, Apple will also present iOS 18 with AI enhancements in June at WWDC 2024.
