United Kingdom government takes a big step towards sustainability by working towards an environment-friendly train runs on biomethane otherwise known as waste products.
Under the Sustainable Innovation Fund category, the UK government has awarded ULR partners 60,000 pounds to create trains that run on waste products, including human faeces.
The firm plans on using this money to develop a fully sustainable train that can carry up to 120 passengers at a time.
There is a mix of biodegradable products, such as sewage, sludge, crop residues, animal manure, and food waste. The bacteria then converts the organic matter into a gas. Said gas is then used as an alternative fuel.
They are also known as Bio-Methane or biogas.
BioUltra wants to replace trams and trains with a more environmental alternative, biomethane. The company wants to take over and start with smaller less used branches of the network.
The new train prototypes are said to be much lighter weight and more sustainable than regular modes of vehicle.
The specialists say that biomethane would be released into the atmosphere either way. This would be caused due to the natural breakdown of natural gas and other fossil fuels.
The otherwise free carbon and its compounds could be trapped and used constructively.
The company plans to develop a railcar capable of safely transporting passengers. They also plan on focusing on and implanting Covid 19 protocols.
Ultraviolet light and heavy airflow will be used to decompose the carcass. This is to be done in accordance with the Black Country Chamber of Commerce instructions.
On July 2020, the public received a prototype of the Biomethane vehicle.
The chairman of Ultra Light Rail Partners, Beverley Nielsen voiced his opinion.
“I believe this is a vote of confidence in our company, which focuses on providing comfortable, modern, reliable, and safe rail transport alternatives to cars.”
The goal is to provide this service to larger towns and smaller cities all around the UK. The motto is to take polluting vehicles off the streets and improve their quality of life.
Sustainability West Midlands conducted recent monitoring and studies. This reported, pollution levels have started to fall by 50% which would result in the prevention of 952 deaths.
