WhatsApp is pushing out a feature to Android beta testers that allow users to check in to WhatsApp Web utilising their phone number. In order to use the online version of the messaging service, customers must presently scan a QR code with their smartphone. One may sign in on their computer using their cell number after installing the latest experimental version of WhatsApp for Android, which may come in useful if one’s phone’s camera isn’t working correctly. On an Android beta version of WhatsApp, WhatsApp is also developing fresh filters for enhanced chat sorting.
The new feature, discovered by feature tracker WABetaInfo on WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.14, can be found by tapping on the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the screen, then selecting Linked equipment > Link a device as well as authenticating using the smartphone’s fingerprint scanner — or entering ones own phone PIN or password. The QR code scanner will appear on the following screen, along with a new option at the bottom — Link with phone number alternatively.
When the user taps the new button, a new screen appears, prompting them to access WhatsApp Web and click on the Link using their phone number. After inputting your phone number, one is given an 8-digit code that they must enter on their phone’s WhatsApp app to finish the device connecting procedure. Gadgets 360 confirmed that this functionality is visible and functional on the current beta version of WhatsApp for Android.
It’s worth mentioning that the most recent WhatsApp beta for Android only enables phone number logins on the website’s interface; it doesn’t support logging in with a mobile number on WhatsApp Desktop or secondary mobile devices. There is no news on when WhatsApp will add this capability to its iOS client, or when it will be available to Android users on the official update channel.
Meanwhile, WABetaInfo discovered a new feature in the works that would enable users to filter messages with simply a few touches. WhatsApp recently added new filters such as All, Unread, Personal, and Business to replace the navigation tabs that have been relocated to the bottom of the chat programme. By choosing one of the four filters, users will be able to group various messages based on whether they have been opened or remains unread, as well as list out WhatsApp Business chats.
