Being one of the most popular social media platforms, the popular messaging app Telegram will soon cross one billion active monthly users within a year. On Tuesday, Telegram’s billionaire founder Pavel Durov said that the messaging platform is spreading like “forest fire”.
Telegram – a popularly used messaging app
Based in Dubai, Telegram was founded in 2013 by Russian-born Durov. He refused to comply with demands of shutting down opposition communities on his VK social media platform,which was sold by him, and left Russia in 2014. Durov, the one who owns Telegram completely told U.S. journalist Tucker Carlson – “We’ll probably cross one billion monthly active users within a year now.” Tucker Carlson posted the video interview on his account on the X social media platform.
“Telegram is spreading like forest fire.”
Forbes has estimated that Durov might have a fortune of $ 15.5 million. Durov reported that some governments had actually proceeded to pressurize him for shutting the app down. However, this app has about 900 million active users right now. It has been stated that the messaging platform should remain a “neutral platform” and not a “player in geopolitics”. One of the most prominent rivals of Telegram is Meta’s messaging platform- WhatsApp. WhatsApp has more than two billion monthly active users right now. According to a report published by Financial Times in March, Telegram is aiming for a U.S. listing after a certain level of profitability has been reached by the company.
