Sonos has addressed the battery issues with its new Roam 2 headphones. These were quietly released along with Sonos’ Ace over-ear headphone. The company has also added a button that makes Bluetooth pairing faster and easier when you are not at home.
Although it’s not exactly an engineering marvel, its good brands update their products. This is better rather than reinventing the wheel. The Roam 2 is identical to its predecessor in terms of functionality. The Roam 2 is designed to last more than two years and comes with a Bluetooth pairing button that’s easier.
Sonos Roam on the Range
Sonos used to have a policy that its products did not support Bluetooth, but this has changed in the last few years.
Roam 2 chose to equip the Roam with Bluetooth because there isn’t much Wi-Fi at the lake or in the woods. This allowed listeners to have a single Sonos device for their kitchen as well as their knapsack.
It connects via Wi-Fi at home and appears in the Sonos App on your smartphone. If you want to listen to music on the move, or if a friend is in a hurry to hear some music, just pair it to Bluetooth. This is a great party trick for people who have other Sonos speakers.
Still the Best
The Roam 2 is as easy to use as they come. It looks exactly like the original Roam (except for the Bluetooth pairing button, which was much needed and the few color variations). Connect phone, choose music, and play that music. However, the new Sonos app can be a little difficult to use at home via Wi-Fi.
It is a great speaker for podcasts as well as pop music. The speaker isn’t loud enough or big enough to support a dance party in the forest. However, it gets surprisingly loud.
Roam 2 can be easily placed anywhere. It can be placed in cupholders, strapped to a backpack or bag, or hotdog-style set down by tilting it to the side. Also, it’s waterproof and easy to clean if sand or dirt gets on it.
The first Roam was a great product for Sonos, except that its battery life wasn’t very good. Also, it didn’t have a simple Bluetooth pairing button.
