A new scam has been uncovered, which is not a surprising reason why WhatsApp is making headlines once more. Because it is simpler to contact individuals on this app, a lot of fraudsters have in the past utilised it to deceive people and take their money. With nearly two billion active users each month, WhatsApp has once more become an attractive target for scammers. On Twitter, several people have voiced their complaints regarding unidentified calls from overseas numbers beginning with +84, +62, +60, +212, and more.

According to reports, WhatsApp users are reportedly getting calls at random from places like Malaysia, Kenya, Vietnam, New York, and Ethiopia. This is consistent with what the ISD codes indicate. There is now no consensus as to why this is taking place. However, we are aware that calls are made on a moderate to frequent basis. On alternate days, some people have had 2 to 4 calls. Some consumers are receiving more calls from international numbers, particularly those who are purchasing a new SIM.

What Exactly Are The Latest Scam Calls About? Should We Panic?

There is no reason for panic. There is only one thing that should be done – reporting and blocking the caller. Any message or link one receives from an unknown caller may contain malware that has malicious intentions like cyber theft, or virus implication.  Under no circumstances should one click on them. Consumers may also be misled into taking action in order to steal their hard-earned money. Users are urged to ignore incoming calls from unknown numbers and just block them.

It serves no use to point out that there is a job offer scam going on in WhatsApp, and users are advised to take cautious and not put their trust in strangers. One should confirm the identification of the person making the employment offer on a network like WhatsApp.

Cries of Panic Have Been Heard!

Whatsapp has taken notice of the newest cybercrime and has issued a statement for the same! People have received instructions from the Meta-owned corporation to simply report and ban such calls. “Blocking and reporting suspicious messages/calls is an important step to effectively combat scams and when users receive calls from unknown international or domestic phone numbers,” was WhatsApp’s response to the media and the people.
