In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Samsung Consumer Electronics CEO Kim Hyun-suk told the news agency that the company aims for all their devices to have AI features by 2020. He plans to reach that goal by building a team of 1,000 AI engineers and “some staff reassignments.” Kim argues that people would not need smart speakers so much if the AI features weren’t integrated into every device.

Aside from Samsung’s Bixby assistant, Kim wants to add internet connectivity to every device under their brand. According to WSJ, Samsung sells half a billion products a year and is expanding their AI efforts by opening five new AI research centers all over the world.
