Reuters has reported that Google-backed startup Niantic is going to develop more AR maps via crowdsourcing.
Niantic CEO John Hanke spoke to Reuters about the company’s future plans; he said they wanted to shift more of their focus on “AR maps”, a vital part of many AR apps including Pokemon Go. Hake told the news agency, “We want players to build out the game board they want to play on,” and that AR maps “would enrich the new kind of social activity Niantic has fostered,” Hanke plans to start mapping public areas such as parks and plazas but as not specified any particular places.
Niantic’s next launch will be the highly-anticipated “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” coming out later this year.
