Last few weeks have been troublesome for crypto investors. Crypto crash of few stable coins has created a havoc in the market. For instance, Luna lost upto 99% of its value. Not only this, but Cryptocoin also had an outage in the past few weeks. After these bothersome weeks, phishing attack on crypto websites is posing new challenges to the Meta users.
Meta wallet users at risk on crypto websites
While accessing crypto website, Meta users have received mischievous notifications. The notification urges Meta users to link their Metamask wallet to be used on the site. Cryptocurrency websites like CoinGecko, Etherscan and others have reported this suspicious activity.
Websites like Etherscan have requested users not to confirm any suspicious transactional activity. Many experts suggested that phishing attack mainly focuses on Metamask wallet users. Etherscan, CoinGecko shared their concern for the same on their twitter handles. CoinGecko called out this act as a scam. This is not a first in the crypto world. Earlier, Meta users had also received malicious emails. Crypto website such as Dextools has compromised its ads until the situation gets normal.
The Culprit and important measures for crypto websites
The ad that has created a havoc in the crypto world was created by Coinzilla. A tweet from CoinGecko’s twitter handle is going viral. It suggests, ‘The situation is caused by a malicious ad script by Coinzilla, a crypto ad network….’ (read the whole tweet here:

In February, around $1.7 million worth NFTs were stolen through phishing attack on crypto websites, causing loss to users. Like previous phishing attacks, this one also commits a link to the Bored Ape Yacht Club Project accompanied by an Ape skull logo. Etherscan has totally disabled the third party integration to avoid such risks. However, Bobby Ong, founder of CoinGecko has assured people through his tweet. It says that they are ‘investigating the root cause of this attack to fix it as soon as possible’.
