Oppo frames the Reno 12 Pro 5G as a “everyday AI companion,” along with smart productivity features and camera advancements. For us, the phone also represents the release of MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy.

Build

The stylish two-tone matte-gloss appearance of the Reno 12 Pro 5G, which comes in Sunset Gold and Space Brown, is accentuated by a metallic ribbon that runs over the rear of the phone. The gadget is incredibly light and thin for having a 5,000mAh battery inside. The phone’s innovative “All-Round Armour Architecture” blends protection with elegance.

Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 provides improved protection against drops, scratches, and impacts for the device’s front and back. Oppo has implemented an internal High-Strength Alloy Framework that enhances corrosion resistance, thermal conductivity, and overall strength through the use of a proprietary alloy composition.

The back panel’s upper left corner is where the tastefully integrated rear camera system is located. The triple-lens arrangement is housed within a subtly rectangular camera module.

An additional degree of durability is added by the IP65 designation for water and dust protection. It would have been good to have IP68 certification, though. The speaker grille, SIM card tray, and USB-C connector are located at the bottom. There’s an IR blaster on the top edge.

Display

A 6.7-inch Quad Curved Infinite View Screen with a 120Hz AMOLED display is included with the new Oppo Reno 12 Pro. At 2412×1080, the FHD+ resolution yields a sharp pixel density of 394. The screen ensures good visibility even in direct sunshine with a peak brightness of 1200 nits outdoors and local peaks up to 1500 nits.

With compatibility for HDR10 and HDR10+, the display promises vivid colors and strong contrasts for watching multimedia content.

OS

Based on Android 14, ColorOS 14.1 powers the Oppo Reno 12 Pro 5G. Oppo guarantees four years of security patches and three years of OS upgrades, so the gadget should remain up to date for a respectable amount of time.

Several AI-powered features are introduced in ColorOS 14. When you use your phone, the AI Toolbox can detect what you’re doing and suggest useful AI features. For example, it might recommend AI Writer when creating social media posts or AI Speak and AI Summary when reading publications.

Additionally, content can be easily shared and saved across programs, even syncing across ColorOS devices, thanks to the new File Dock function. Users may now extract and edit content from screenshots that they were previously unable to pick thanks to the Smart Touch.

Processor and Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy powers the new Oppo Reno 12 Pro 5G. This octa-core device, which was constructed using a 4nm process, aims to balance power and efficiency with four high-performance A78 cores and four efficient A55 cores. The Arm Mali-G615. is in charge of the GPU. The processor is supported by 12GB of RAM.

To maximize performance, the chipset and Oppo’s Trinity Engine collaborate. It consists of three modules: ROM-Vita for storage optimization, RAM-Vita for improved RAM utilization, and CPU Vita for accurate SoC resource scheduling. The phone has 256 GB of storage out of the box, and it can be expanded with a microSD card. But if you want to increase the storage, you have to give up one SIM slot.

Camera

A flexible triple rear camera system is a feature of the Oppo Reno 12 Pro 5G, catering to a variety of photography requirements. A 50MP primary camera with Pixel Omni-Directional PDAF and optical image stabilization (OIS) using a Sony LYT-600 sensor makes up the arrangement. A 50MP telephoto camera with a Samsung S5KJN5 sensor and 2x optical zoom complements this. An 8MP ultra-wide camera with a Sony IMX355 sensor and a 112-degree field of view completes the trio. High-quality self-portraits are guaranteed by a 50MP autofocus selfie camera on the front.

The camera technology of the Reno 12 Pro 5G really excels in daytime. Images are captured with remarkable detail and brilliant, lifelike colors by the primary 50MP sensor. The telephoto lens’s 2x optical zoom comes in handy for portraiture, producing a natural bokeh effect that rivals that of specialized portrait lenses on high-end cameras.

AI

Oppo has included a number of AI-powered features to improve the camera experience overall. AI Eraser 2.0 does a remarkable job at accurately removing undesired items or persons from images, while it sometimes introduces artifacts into particularly complex scenes. For group selfies, AI Clear Face is especially helpful as it can enhance up to 10 people’s facial features in one picture, including hair, eyebrows, and contours.

Battery

With a 5,000mAh battery, the Reno 12 Pro 5G is said by Oppo to have the highest energy density of any phone in the Reno series. The phone definitely lasts for a day or more. After four years of operation, the battery should retain more than 80% of its capacity, according to the manufacturer.

Oppo’s 80W SUPERVOOC Flash Charge technology manages charging and can charge a handset from 1% to 100% in 48–52 minutes.
