Netflix reports that the streaming platform will soon remove the ‘Downloads’ feature due to which the ones who use Windows will no longer be able to download movies or TV shows.
Netflix is planning to discard the Windows 11 and Windows 10 app. This is because the Windows 11 and Windows 10 app of Netflix is soon going to be replaced with an advanced and upgraded web app. This new web app will not only have an improved quality for video streaming but will also offer access to live events. It also looks like the popular streaming platform will remove the option for offline viewing.
The ones who use the current version of the Netflix app for Windows 10 and Windows 11 now has the option for downloading the shows they like in up to 1080p (full HD). There is a new support document on the website that says “downloads will no longer be supported, but you can continue to watch TV shows and movies offline on a supported mobile device”.
The updated Netflix app for Windows will reportedly allow users to watch content on the streaming platform at a price much lower than the standard plans. However most TV shows and movies will include commercial breaks and here comes the ‘ad-supported’ tier. Because of licensing issues, some titles will be unavailable on this tier.
As of now, the ad supported streaming plan is not yet supported by the Netflix Windows app. It shows a message that says, “Your plan does not support streaming on this device.” The ad-supported tier is not yet available in India and you would have to go back to your phone if you want to watch movies or TV shows offline.
