Microsoft launched its annual Xbox Games Showcase Sunday. The company unveiled a new digital version of the Xbox Series X and S as well as trailers of more than a dozen titles, including the latest installment of “Call of Duty.”
Microsoft does the Games Showcase
The Games Showcase is a critical moment for Xbox and Microsoft, as the gaming industry struggles with soft sales, layoffs, and studio closures.
Microsoft unveiled three consoles, including a version without discs for the Xbox Series X console and the Xbox Series S console and a special Edition of the Series X console with 2 terabytes storage.
Xbox’s hardware refreshment could boost sales of its consoles that compete with Sony PlayStation 5
The games included “Doom: The Dark Ages”, a new entry in the “Doom” series, and a preview of the latest “Gears of War”, ending a 5-year wait for the most popular Xbox property.
Xbox Game Pass will launch with a large number of titles, including “Doom”, and “Call of Duty”. This shows that Microsoft is placing a lot of money on this subscription service to try to win over consumers in a softer economy.
Activision Blizzard Studios followed the Games Showcase with a special feature that showcased features, characters and gameplay of “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6”, slated to be released in October.
Treyarch, Raven Software and other developers showed off clips of the game’s campaign, which takes place in early 1990s. They highlighted features like a new movement feature that allows players to sprint anywhere, as well as the “Zombies mode”, a fan favourite.
