Sarah Bond, Xbox President, has announced that the tech joint is all set to launch a web based mobile game store sometime in July.
Everything we know about Microsoft’s web based game store so far
Microsoft, reportedly, is all ready and set to launch an online mobile game store of its own sometime in July. Xbox president Sarah Bond said that the store will have games from various Microsoft game studios, while speaking at the Bloomberg Technology Summit.
According to reports by Bloomberg, Microsoft’s web based gaming store will feature games such as Candy Crush Saga and Call Of Duty: Mobile. The store will also offer various discounts on different in game items. Sarah Bond said that since the game store will be available on the web instead of an app, users can access it across all devices and all countries irrespective of the policies of closed ecosystem stores. She said the store will be “accessible across all devices, all countries, no matter what, independent of the policies of closed ecosystem stores.”
The Xbox President added that irrespective of “who you are, your library, your identity, your rewards travel with you versus being locked to a single ecosystem.” This will allow Microsoft to bypass the hefty commission fees implied by Google and Apple.
Since most of the games are already available on competitor app stores such as Google Play Store and the Apple App store, it will be interesting to see what Microsoft has to offer, especially the type of discounts which the tag giants will offer to attract gamers and persuade them to download and purchase the latest titles from the web gaming store.
Microsoft has been falling behind in the Mobile gaming market even though the tech giant might be the largest gaming company in the world. There have been hints from the Xbox president that Microsoft might be cooking something up to compete with Google and Apple’s App Store but we do not know further details about this, as of yet.
