Microsoft added a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature to its Bing search engine on Wednesday.
All that we know about the feature
Called Dubbed Bing generative search, the feature displays a snapshot containing information about a searched query. The feature is similar to Google’s AI Overview tool, which was publicly launched in the United States in May. Bing’s AI-powered search feature also shows where content is coming from. The company said the feature is currently rolling out to a small percentage of queries, potentially avoiding the AI illusion problem that AI Overview suffers from.
Features of Bing Generative Search
In a blog post, Microsoft Bing announced the feature and said: “Today, we’re excited to share an early view of our new generative search experience which is currently shipping to a small percentage of user queries.” This feature is an expansion of the company’s AI-powered chat responses on Bing, launched in February 2023.
On the surface, Bing’s generative search looks a lot like Google’s AI Overviews. It appears inside the gray box at the top of the Bing Snapshot search results page The information comes with titles, document indexes for easy navigation to the right section, and source citations.
AI also adds images, videos, and tables whenever necessary. Whenever Bing Generative Search appears, traditional search results move to the right side of the page. The left side shows the snapshot first, followed by the source link, then related search results.
