For the upcoming academic year, Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has teamed up with Simplon.co, a French social and solidarity firm dedicated to digital training, to develop ‘Metaverse Academy,’ a free school specifically for metaverse, in France.

In a joint news release published on Sunday, the two groups announced the start of the initiative. In its initial year, the Metaverse Academy hopes to train roughly 100 students from places such as Nice, Lyon, Marseille, and Paris, among others. Specialist Immersive Technology Developers and Assistance and Support Technicians will receive the majority of the training.

The teaching will be face-to-face, according to Simplon co-founder Frederic Bardeau, and projects will focus on 3D and immersive virtual world interactions. The project will place a strong emphasis on diversity, with Solly aiming for 30% female participation in the first cohort, and Bardeau’s approach encouraging positive discrimination by not looking at resumes.

Laurent Solly, Meta’s vice president from Southern Europe, said “Thanks to this strong partnership with a key player, Simplon, the Metaverse Academy is a first step that will help anticipate the acceleration of uses and train the future builders of the metaverse. We want to participate in the creation of a collective metaverse, by creating sustainable jobs for the entire digital ecosystem.”

Both Meta and Simplon emphasized the importance of such training programs in this era, citing the fact that 80 percent of the jobs that will exist in 2030 have yet to be created. They also highlighted the significance of future generations being aware and employable in the workforce. Meta said in October 2021 that it would create 10,000 jobs in Europe over the next five years to establish the metaverse, the US technology giant’s new strategic goal.

Meta and Simplon, on the other hand, aren’t the first to embark on a project to train metaverse-related transactions. Ridouan Abagri created a Metaverse College in France earlier this year, which is the world’s first school dedicated to the creation, structuring, and development of 3D universes through augmented and virtual reality.
