metaverseFacebook’s parent company Meta is all set to launch a “metaverse academy” in France in collaboration with a French digital training firm, as recently confirmed by the two organisations.

For those who don’t know, the metaverse is an integrated network of 3D Virtual worlds. Users can navigate the Metaverse using their eye movements, feedback controllers or voice commands by using a virtual reality headset. It offers an immersive experience to the user by stimulating a presence, which generates the physical sensation of actually being present there in person. In short, a metaverse is a world where people can mingle and engage in a seemingly endless variety of virtual experiences in a VR or AR-based world separate from our actual one, all funded and supported by its own digital currency.

The school is all set to start off by training 100 students for free in its debut year. They will be trained in mainly two roles- specialist immersive technology developers and support and assistance technicians.

The metaverse academy, which will be located in Paris and other cities such as Lyon, Marseille, and Nice, will train 20 students per city each year. All the training will be mostly project-based, focused on the 3D world and virtual interactions in the metaverse, and will be conducted through the physical mode only. Diversity will be given utmost importance and the ratio of the class will be solely based on that. Also, 30 percent of the population is going to be women.

Meta announced in October 2021 that it would generate 10,000 jobs in Europe over the next five years to establish the metaverse, the company’s new strategic goal.

Also, there’s a speculation in 2030 that there is going to be a steep increase in 80 per cent of the careers closely linked with metaverse, which have not been discovered yet. The idea to establish the metaverse academy as a goal is based on expectations that future in-demand work skills will be tightly linked to the metaverse.
