The in-app Predictive Back option may be added to the long list of exciting features the Android 14 version will give devices. The IT giant is attempting to integrate this capability into nearly every programme on your phone, as the name suggests. The phrase “Predictive Back feature” is not brand-new. To be more precise, you may preview the final destination or another outcome of a back motion using the appropriate tool before fully executing it. This gives you the option of continuing or staying in the current view.

In other words, when you swipe away from the edge of the phone, a preview of the home screen appears. The app you are presently working on then gets smaller. This “back to home” gesture lowers the number of times users unintentionally close an app. The Android manufacturer plans to provide an in-app Predictive Back function with the Android 14 software operating system in response to user requests. We have heard a lot of rumours about this thus far. However, Google started this idea for how app developers, including Chrome, may implement this feature in the upcoming update during the I/O 2023 event.

Android 14 will let the predictive back gesture work inside apps

By going to System app > System > and then selecting the Developer options in Android 13, you may test this component. The Predictive back animations may be seen here. Google might make this functionality the default setting for people using Android 14. Thanks to this action, users will eventually be able to preview the screen they will return to while managing a programme. The functionality is not required in the second beta of the new OS. The business is testing it on Chrome alongside additional applications, though.

The company has also provided some intriguing suggestions that will help designers incorporate this helpful function. They can choose to use the predicted back gesture for a specific activity as opposed to the entire programme, for example. On the other hand, elements like Side Sheets, Search, the navigation rail, and Bottom Sheets can also undergo modifications.
