The hype of Electronic vehicles has been growing with each passing day, be it in Germany or India or Japan. They are considered at being the next generation of innovation leading to a better environment. With how popular electronic cars are becoming, it is bizarre to even think of the possibility of any country banning such an innovation. Switzerland might be the one to do so in a bid, as to ensure that they have enough power to last through all of winter.
This beautiful country draws most of its power from its neighbouring countries, France & Germany. However, it has come to our attention, to are running short on resources due to a reduction in natural gas supply, as a result of the Russia – Ukraine war. France has been heard to import energy from elsewhere for the first time in decades.
Elcom, the Swiss Federal Electricity Commission, issued a statement in June of ‘22 stating that the power supply during winters would be incredibly uncertain due to the low availability of the power generated by French Nuclear Power Plants. Germany has been facing a similar situation. Exporting power to Switzerland might just be off the table this winter.
Thus, Elcom has planned a 4 step plan to cut down on energy usage. This facilitates retaining enough power to last through winter. European winters are known to be quite harsh, hence power outage is out of the question. The country is on the verge of banning Electric Vehicles this winter, so that everyone has access to power, and energy consumption can be limited to “just the necessities”. Elcom has also gone ahead to inform citizens that EVs might be charged in the case of an absolute emergency.
This seems like a bad winter for European countries as many are faced with energy depletion issues and they have been forced to look elsewhere to make ends meet. Russia – Ukraine has left a huge impact on not only the countries at war but everyone around them in one way or another. For the first time, France & Germany, who were energy givers to the ice-covered country have to look around so that their own resources don’t get depleted. This idea is highly innovative but nonetheless is an extreme measure, which makes us understand just how serious the situation at hand is.
