Google unveiled the Pixel 8a and the Wallet app for Android smartphone users in India on Wednesday. The free software is promoted as a digital center that can hold tickets, prizes, and even an automobile key.

The Google Wallet version that is available in India cannot hold bank cards or be used to make digital payments, in contrast to the worldwide version. The company will still use Google Pay as its payment app.

Everything you need to know about Google’s brand-new Wallet app in India is provided below:

Exclusively compatible with Android smartphones

Only Android users can use Google Wallet. If, for some reason, a search on the Play Store does not yield the app you are looking for, try visiting the official website of the developer; this will take you to the Play Store installation page. As of right present, only a few phones running Android 9 or later can use the Google Wallet app.

The procedure of configuring the Google Wallet is quite simple. Enrolling in Wallet just requires a few clicks if you are already signed into a Google account. Users can add their movie tickets, airline tickets, and partner vouchers once they’ve set everything up.

Google revealed at the event that it has collaborations with more than 20 companies, including Dominos, Air India, Flipkart, PVR, Inox, and more. Google Wallet can provide benefits from loyalty programs such as MakeMyTrip, IKEA, MacDonald’s, Croma, and others, in addition to boarding cards and tickets. Additionally, gift cards from partners like Hamleys, Lenskart, Taj, and ITC hotels can be added by users.

You can also add such details to the Wallet app if you frequently take public transportation. But as of right now, Kochi Metro is the nation’s only supported partner.

What distinguishes it from Google Pay?

There is a complete difference between Google Wallet and Google Pay in India. The business has stated that they will carry on coexisting. The RuPay credit card can now be stored in Google Pay, a software for digital payments that uses UPI. It is not possible to make any kind of payment using Google Wallet.

How can a pass be added to Google Wallet?

Scan a picture or a hard copy of the pass with a barcode or QR code in order to add it to your Google Wallet. These can be accessible on several devices and synchronized with the user’s Google account once added.

Click the “add to wallet” icon at the top of the screen to add a pass to your Google Wallet. If you have a physical card or an image, select the first option and scan it to add. In a similar vein, to add a digital pass to your wallet, choose the service provider from the list and input your phone number.

You can add a note to the Wallet app along with the card number, PIN, and balance in order to add a gift card. Following addition, the gift card balance will be accessible through other Google services, such as shopping and Maps, both of which have a settings menu option to disable it. On the Wallet app, passes that have expired will automatically be archived. You can also archive older passes.

Check out the Samsung Wallet app if you use a Samsung device. It can be used as both Google Pay and Google Wallet. For iPhone users, Apple offers a first-party Wallet app that functions similarly to Google Wallet in India.
