Google has launched a new Gemini AI panel for Gmail, which can be used to help write emails and summarize entire email threads. Google is adding the Gemini side bar to Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive. Google launched the new features last month during its I/O developer’s conference. The event was heavily focused on the AI offerings of the tech giant.
More about the new Gemini AI Panel
You can now use Gemini to receive suggestions for email responses or to help you draft an email. You can also ask questions or find specific information in emails from your Google Drive or your Gmail inbox.
Google notes that Gemini within Gmail provides prompts for you to get started, but you can also submit your own questions. You can, for example, ask Gemini “What is the PO number of my agency?” or “How much money did the company spend at the last marketing event?”
These features are available only to Google Workspace subscribers with a Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education Premium, or Education Premium Add-on.
The Gemini panel in Docs can help you refine and write your content. It can also summarize information, and assist you with brainstorming ideas. You can also create content using other files. Gemini’s Slides can be used to create new slides, custom images and summarize presentations.
Gemini can help you organize and track your data within Sheets. You can also create tables, generate formulas, and receive help in performing certain tasks. The Gemini panel in Drive can summarize documents or provide quick facts about projects.
You will also need to pay for Gemini to use the features of Docs, Slides Sheets, and Drive.
Google has added generative AI to its everyday apps and services. Meta introduced its AI chatbot on Instagram as well as WhatsApp earlier this year. Apple announced recently that generative AI will be added to its applications and services including Siri, Mail, Notes, and Messages.
While the recent trend of adding AI to everyday products is not welcomed by all, it may be a good thing for some. While Apple’s new AI features were a big deal, Meta’s AI chatbot was met with pushback when it was added to Instagram search. Users who don’t want to use generative AI, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT tool, were able, until now, to avoid it. As tech giants add AI to everyday apps and services it will become harder to avoid generative AI.
