As a component of a bigger initiative to provide its goods artificial intelligence capabilities, Apple Inc. is reportedly nearing an agreement with OpenAI to put the startup’s technology on the iPhone, according to people familiar with the subject.
According to the persons, who wished to remain anonymous due to the confidentiality of the matter, the parties have been hammering out the details of an agreement to incorporate ChatGPT functionality into Apple’s upcoming iOS 18, the operating system for iPhones. Apple and Google, a division of Alphabet Inc., have also discussed licensing the Gemini chatbot developed by the latter. Though they are still underway, those talks have not resulted in an agreement.
Apple plans to launch a number of new AI capabilities next month, and an agreement with OpenAI would allow it to provide a well-liked chatbot as one of them. The talks with OpenAI had heated up, according to a Bloomberg article from April. However, there’s no assurance that an agreement will be made public very soon.
Apple, OpenAI, and Google representatives choose not to provide a comment.
When Apple presents its yearly Worldwide Developers Conference in June, it intends to make a big statement in the AI community. As part of the push, Bloomberg reports that the company will power some of its planned artificial intelligence services with data centers that have their own internal processors.
Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, stated last year that he personally utilizes ChatGPT from OpenAI, but he also mentioned that there were “a number of issues that need to be sorted.” He assured us that AI elements would be added to Apple products “very thoughtfully.”
