The popularly used chatbot, ChatGPT, suffered an outage around 1:00 p.m. yesterday but is back online and is currently accessible.
It was reported around 1:00 p.m. that several users were experiencing problems while accessing ChatGPT. However it seems that ChatGPT is back online and is available to be accessed by the users right now. It has been tested on both mobile as well as desktop and the chatbot seems to be working fine, just like before.
During the outage, some users reported that the website is not accessible. However others said that they were not able to generate responses from the chatbot. Users noticed that the AI chart bought was not allowing them to input any prompts and it said ‘Internal Server Error’. Similar results were being displayed on both iPhone as well as desktop.
According to Downdetector (Downdetector is a website that is used to track the online status of various services) the outage started somewhere around 1:00 p.m. IST. It turns out that the support page of OpenAI has finally identified the root cause of the issue and that they are “continuing to work on a fix for this issue.”
It is indicated by the support page that the API is currently operational which means that if there is any third party service that depends on OpenAI’s technology, it might be working normally. Several users reported the problem on their X profiles- while some simply expressed their displeasure due to the occurrence of the outrage, others simply started sharing memes.
