After filing a complaint against Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp just this March, Blackberry is accusing another social media platform of copying off of their patents.
As first reported by Bloomberg, the Canadian software company alleges that Snapchat has infringed six of their patents, including “mobile advertising techniques”, “map improvements, and “user interface improvement”. All six patents were issued in the years 2012 and 2014. The complaint against Snapchat states, “Defendant has used BlackBerry’s intellectual property to compete with it in the mobile messaging space.”
Blackberry has previously filed patent infringement complaints against other tech companies like Nokia and has reached settlements with Avaya Holdings, BLU Products, and Cisco.
