Audi vehicles are getting a native Apple Music app

Audi is integrating Apple Music into its vehicles’ infotainment systems, allowing drivers to listen to their playlists and catch up on podcasts without the use of a separate device. Porsche had already included the integrated streaming music service in its all-electric Taycan, making this the second Volkswagen group carmaker to do so. “The integration of Apple Music into the Audio infotainment system represents the next stage in Audi and Apple’s relationship,” said Christiane Zorn, Audi’s head of product marketing. It demonstrates that Apple is more ready to pass over control of its music streaming platform to automakers, offering drivers additional options for utilizing the service rather than being forced to use Apple CarPlay or rely on Bluetooth via a smartphone.

To compete with Spotify for market share, Apple realized it needed to expand its music service to many platforms. Apple Music was first released for Android in 2015, and it has since expanded to include applications for Amazon Fire TV, PS5, and, most recently, Roku. Apple, on the other hand, wanted manufacturers to adopt CarPlay over a native infotainment system.

CarPlay is already available in practically every new vehicle, so Apple is unlikely to be concerned about its iPhone integration system’s acceptance. Tesla is a notable holdout when it comes to Apple integration. Unlike other manufacturers, Tesla has shown little interest in introducing CarPlay, choosing instead to run music applications on its own operating system. Spotify and Tidal are accessible in Teslas, and while Apple Music was said to be in the works, it never materialized – but maybe you can hack it in.
