Apple announced on Monday at WWDC 2024 in Apple Park the next-generation OS — visionOS 2 (for the Vision Pro spatial computing computer), new features for AirPods Pro and Apple TV, watchOS 11, macOS Sequoia (for Macs), and more. The OSes are available to developers today and the consumer versions will be released in September 2024.
VisionOS 2 gets new gestures and mouse input
VisionOS 2 Apple introduces new features to the Vision Pro. These include the ability for users to create spatial images and a travel mode for trains. The update also adds new features such as a rearrangeable view of the home screen, new gestures and support for HealthKit. It also supports recent guests, SharePlay photos, SharePlay for videos, etc. Vision Pro is now available in more countries, including China, Japan and Singapore, Australia, Canada. The UK, France and Germany.
AirPods Pro Update
Apple claims that AirPods Pro has several new features. These include personal spatial audio, which allows gamers to hear their own voice without being distracted by background noise, and call isolation. AirPods users can also reject calls by shaking their head. AirPods Pro users will be able to enjoy high-resolution audio at 16-bit and 48kHz, as well as improved voice quality when chatting with fellow players.
Apple tvOS Update
Apple tvOS will also get new features, such as InSight, which offers information on the cast and music featured in TV+ originals. There are also new screensavers, including a Snoopy one. InSight provides information about the actors and music in Apple TV+ Originals. It can enhance TV dialogue when headphones or earphones are connected. This also works with Bluetooth speakers.
Apple Watch gets a new feature with watchOS 11.
watchOS 11 brings several new features to the Apple Watch. These include a revamped Photos watchface customization feature. The company will open the double-tap API up to third-party developer. The users will also benefit from new features with watchOS 11, including custom workouts to track pool swims, tracking training loads, translation, intelligent stacks, interactive widgets and the ability pause activity rings.
Other minor features include turn-by-turn navigation for hiking, a new view of pregnancy, live events, and enhanced ticketing in certain markets.
MacOS Sequoia brings better integration between the iPhone and macOS.
macOS Sequoia adds new features to Apple Silicon powered Macs. These include wireless iPhone screen-mirroring, checking iPhone notifications on Mac, automatic window size adjustments, and a native app password manager. Safari also gets new text effects and more privacy for web browsing.
