Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S24 Ultra in January, with a 200-megapixel quad rear camera setup. An early report claims that the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s camera would get a major makeover in 2019. According to reports, Samsung is testing a flagship smartphone for the upcoming year that would only have three back cameras instead of four. It’s possible that the 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom found on the current phone won’t be present in the next version. Most likely, the standard 200-megapixel sensor will not change.
Three back cameras are allegedly being tested by Samsung for the Galaxy S25 Ultra: a primary sensor, an ultra-wide sensor, and a periscope zoom setup. Rumor has it that the manufacturer of the 2019 flagship smartphone won’t include the 10-megapixel 3x optical zoom telephoto sensor.
Compared to its predecessors, this would represent a significant hardware upgrade. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped with four rear cameras: a 200-megapixel wide camera, an ultra-wide camera with 12 megapixels, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with a 5x optical zoom, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with a 3x optical zoom.
The 200-megapixel primary camera of the Galaxy S25 Ultra prototype is reportedly the same, although light-capture efficiency may be enhanced. It is expected to use the same 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and at this development level, alterations are not possible.
We are testing the periscope camera with a huge sensor and variable zoom. Two fixed focal lengths—one between 4x and 5x zoom and the other between 6x and 7x zoom—are being tested by Samsung with the periscope camera.
It is advised to take this rumor with a grain of salt because, well, we are talking about a prototype. According to a few reports, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra would differ slightly from its predecessor.
