According to reports Microsoft is currently testing floating widgets that can be customized in the Windows 11 Start menu. However, this feature is currently available in the latest test build only.

Within the last couple of months, we have seen quite a lot of changes that have been brought about to the Start menu of Windows 11. All of these started after Microsoft recently began receiving backlash from their uses because ads were being shown inside the start menu.
As of now Microsoft has been testing a new change which will show a floating panel in the start menu full of widgets. The new floating widgets were first spotted by a user named Albacore on X. It was observed that the new floating widgets started appearing in the latest Windows 11 test build.
More about the Widgets
The widgets are called “Start Menu Companions “. They are basically apps that show up as “Adaptive Cards” in a floating Island which appears on the right or left side of the start menu. Not only this, but you can also customize these Companions by heading over to settings and then to personalisation where you will find a Start button.
The Start menu customisation window will also show a list of installed companions along with a toggle that allows users to quickly enable or disable them. These companions look very similar to the phone interface of Windows which displayed the information in an animated flipping Live Tiles.
