According to their reports the latest version of Google messages will contain a change to the notification that you get on your phone whenever you get a call from an unknown number or you get a new message from an unknown number. To see the name of the other person, you need to have Profile Discovery activated.
How to enable profile discovery?
To enable profile discovery, you have to open the Google messages app and tap on your profile picture from the top right corner. Then head over to the option that says ‘Messages Settings.’ there you will find ‘Advanced’. Tap on it and click on ‘Profile Discovery’. Also, enable the toggle named ‘Profile Sharing’.
The feature is currently limited to the ones using the latest beta version of Google messages app and it is not sure regarding when Google plans to make this available all across the world.
