Later this month, Google will update Chrome to include real-time malware and phishing protection for all users.

Google is scheduled to release an update later this month that includes an opt-in for better internet protection mode.

Sites, downloads, and extensions are currently verified against a local list as part of the safe browsing standard. Every 30 to 60 minutes, Google’s servers are used to get this list. To stay on top of harmful websites that arise and go in less than ten minutes, Google intends to implement real-time checks against its server-side list with this update.

According to a blog post by Google, this increased time should prevent 25% more phishing attempts.

Activating Google Play Protection

Google Play Protect is a built-in, proactive security feature against malware and undesirable apps that is available on all Android devices with Google Play Services installed.

Cybercriminals are employing new dangerous apps that aren’t available on Google Play to infect more devices with polymorphic malware, which can alter a device’s distinguishable features, in an attempt to evade detection by services like Play Protect. Social engineering is being used to deceive people into completing risky actions.

Google Play Protect has always provided users with protection outside of Google Play because of this. Regardless of the installation source, it searches your smartphone for potentially dangerous programs both online and offline.

Android’s Multiple-Layer User Security

To help protect you against mobile viruses and harmful apps, Android employs a multi-layered protection strategy. When combined with spam and phishing protection in Messages by Google and Gmail, Android’s built-in proactive and advanced user safeguards like Google Play Protect, continuous security updates, app permission controls, Safe Browsing, and more, help safeguard your data security and privacy. To identify new methods to safeguard our billions of users, we are continuously refining this multi-layered model.

It is our first priority to keep Android users safe. To further increase Android’s security, we’re dedicated to collaborating with the app developer community and ecosystem partners to strengthen app security and fight malware and unwanted software.
