Aakash Institute, owned by Byju, announced in a statement that Deepak Mehrotra has been named managing director and chief executive officer. Mehrotra has worked in executive positions in the FMCG, telecom, and educational industries for more than 35 years.
He had held positions as MD at Ashirvad Pipes, Pearson India, Bharti Airtel, Coca-Cola, and Asian Paints before joining Aakash.
Plans to get Aakash Chaudhry, the head of the coaching business unit, back in charge had been abandoned by the physical coaching company. Chaudhry’s comeback seemed improbable due to major changes in Aakash’s compatibility, and the talks recently broke down.
About the new CEO
Mehrotra has over 35 years of experience in executive positions in the education, telecom, and FMCG sectors.
Deepak finished an executive program at The Wharton School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA), holds an MMS from JBIMS, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from IIT Roorkee.
Deepak Mehrotra’s appointment is a component of AESL’s plan to improve services and broaden its clientele, the business stated.
Role of Aakash Institute
After Byju’s sent a legal notice to the owners of Aakash Educational Services, Abhishek Maheshwari, the former CEO, and Vipan Joshi, the former CFO, resigned from the company. As a result, Aakash established a committee in September of last year to select a new CEO and CFO.
The case came about as a result of alleged refusal on the part of the Aakash founders to carry out an unqualified share swap agreement that was agreed upon in connection with the sale of Aakash Educational Services.
What does Aakash institute provide?
For kids studying for school/board exams, competitive tests like NTSE, KVPY, and Olympiads, as well as entrance exams for medicine and engineering, Aakash offers tutoring services.
With franchisees included, it has a network of over 310 locations and serves over 400,000 students.
