Facebook is coming up with an updated video player that offers an engaging full-screen and a vertical experience, just like Tiktok and Instagram Reels.

This updated video-player will start to roll out in the US and Canada for both iOS and Android, followed by a global launch in the upcoming months. The company plans to bring reels, long videos and live content together-all in one for a fullscreen, engaging experience. Until now, the Meta-owned app displayed horizontal videos depending on the length of the video and the nature of the device. With this update, you no longer have to flip your phone to watch videos in the landscape mode.

Features You Can Expect

On tapping anywhere on the video, you can now see a full-screen video that is vertically oriented. Besides, the updated video-player includes new playback controls that allows you to jump to a specific part of the video, as and when desired by using the bottom slider. You can also forward the video to ten seconds after or jump ten seconds backwards with the playback controls.

Meta also said that they have been working on improving the recommendations for videos of all lengths which means your recommendations will be filtered as per your interests. With this advanced and updated video player, you will have the freedom to watch videos in the way you like, thus helping you with a personalized experience. For the horizontal videos which will be automatically vertically-oriented with this update, a new full-screen option will be available that will allow one to watch the video in landscape mode by flipping.

Facebook plans to cater to the demands of the creators and influencers by pushing more reels. In this way, they would be able to reach the target audience they were previously missing out on.
