As of November 2023, Windows 10 remains the go-to operating system for over 68% of PC users, even though it has been around for nine years. However, it’s important to note that support for Windows 10 is set to end on October 14, 2025. This means that after this date, the operating system won’t receive any more security updates.
But fear not, Microsoft recently announced that they will provide Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10 PCs even after the end of support.
Here’s what you need to know about ESUs:
Cost Structure: Initially priced at $61 per PC per year, the ESU subscription ensures ongoing security coverage. However, brace yourself for an incremental cost increase. In the second year, the price doubles to $122, and by 2027, it reaches $244.
Discounts for Multiple Devices: If you manage multiple Windows 10 PCs, Microsoft offers a sweet deal. Purchase the ESU license for up to five devices, and you’ll enjoy a flat 25% discount. For the first year, this brings the cost down to $45 per device.
Timing: ESUs for Windows 10 will be available for purchase starting October 2024, providing users with a buffer year before the official end of support.
Activation Methods: Activating the ESU license is straightforward. You can choose from three methods:
- Cloud-Based Activation: A hassle-free process that ensures your PC stays secure.
- Traditional 5-by-5 Activation Key: The classic approach for those who prefer familiarity.
- Windows 365 Subscription: An alternative route to keep your system protected.
ESUs focus solely on critical security patches. Unfortunately, no new features or technical support will be bundled with these updates.
