The corporation is also said to be in negotiations with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) about possibly launching Apple Pay in India. Not only Apple, but Google, Amazon, and Samsung appear to be interested in expanding into the payments business.
Apple is apparently in negotiations with Indian banks and authorities about launching a credit card in India, which may be called the Apple Card. For those who are unaware, Apple introduced its credit card in the United States in collaboration with Goldman Sachs, an American global investment bank and financial services firm. According to MoneyControl, who cited two persons acquainted with the situation, Apple CEO Tim Cook met with HDFC Bank CEO and MD Sashidhar Jagdishan during his April trip to India.
Is Apple to introduce its very own Credit Card by co-branding in India?
Furthermore, to a third source, Apple is also in negotiations with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) about possibly launching Apple Pay in the nation. However, it is unclear if these conversations are about the credit card supported by NPCI’s Rupay platform or about the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
The advantage of creating a Rupay Credit Card is that it may also be connected to UPI. Only banks are permitted to issue credit cards in India.
