Amazon recently revealed that it has started delivering orders using EVs in at least nine American locations. The company claims that it has a plan to put thousands of these vehicles on the roads of more than 100 cities. Amazon wishes to achieve this by the end of the year. It further aims to put Electric vehicles for delivering purposes across the nation by 2030.
The company ties up with Rivian for delivering orders
A corporate news statement states that the Rivian EV manufacturer is delivering the vehicles, among the 9 American cities. The cities are- Chicago, San Diego, Dallas, Baltimore, Kansas City, Nashville, Phoenix, Seattle, and St. Louis.
In an effort to achieve net carbon neutrality by 2040, Amazon introduced the first electric vehicles to its fleet in February. As a result of a partnership between Amazon and Rivian, the EVs could have a range of up to 150 miles with a single charge.
Amazon’s climate pledge asks them to get net zero carbon by 2040
Three years ago, Amazon co-founded the Climate pledge. The pledge is all about making the signatories to aim net zero carbon. Amazon plans to deliver more than 20 million goods using electric cars by 2020, which is huge. This indeed is a crucial step in transforming the Amazon’s delivery fleet.
The company claimed that since last year, it has been testing deliveries using Rivian preproduction vehicles. The EVs have shipped over 430,000 goods and covered more than 90,000 kilometres.
During the testing period, Rivian kept on improving the service of its Electrical cars. The changes were made by keeping in mind about the climatic conditions, geographical changes etc. The dedication of Rivian employees seems to have a positive impact on Amazon’s performance and its employees’ mind.
