Ubisoft has delayed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora from a 2022 release window to sometime in 2023 or 2024, the company announced as part of its Q1 earnings on Thursday (pdf). The delay keeps up with something of a tradition for Avatar properties to get pushed.“We want to make [Avatar] a video game industry brand,” Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said on Thursday’s earnings call. “It is important for us that we come with something that is perfect.”

The business originally disclosed its plans to create a new Avatar game in 2017, and the first video was unveiled in 2021. Frontiers of Pandora was supposed to be released this year to coincide with the December release of Avatar: The Way of Water, however, Ubisoft has decided to delay its release until 2023 at the earliest. Ubisoft also stated in its earnings report that it would disclose the “future of the Assassin’s Creed brand” in September and that it had delayed the release of “a smaller unannounced premium game” from 2022 or 2023 to 2023 or 2024. On October 20th, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, and on November 8th, Skull, and Bones, a pirate simulator, respectively, are still scheduled for release by the business this year. The business revealed the cancellation of Splinter Cell VR, Ghost Recon Frontline, and two unnamed titles during their call on Thursday.
