China will launch new solar project in space in the next few years. Researchers from China have released a report recently. They share the happy news of their successful testing of a full-system model of tech. Through the model, one could wirelessly use solar power from outer space for Earth.
China’s new solar project might be named as Yuri
China will launch a solar project in space to chase the Sun. The codename of the project is Yuri or chasing the Sun. The Xidian University is working on components of a space-based solar power station. In addition, they have setup a ground recipient verification system to enable next generation microwave power wireless transmission technology.
China Academy of space technology cast plans to conduct a space high voltage transfer and wireless power transfer experiment. The Omega space based solar power station will be capable of generating 10 kilowatts. It will also carry a solar cell array microwave transmitting an antenna and a lower power laser transmission payload. It might have a transmitting array to evaluate the power transmission across the distance of 400 km from the orbit.
Besides China, many other countries are trying to work on this tech
Space is, in many ways, the ideal location for a solar energy array. According to certain estimates, putting a solar panel in space will generate 6-8 times the energy it can here on Earth.
Besides China, there are many countries who are working on the same tech. Following a $1 billion grant in 2013, research teams at the California Institute of Technology initiated a space solar programme. Scholars in India, Russia, the United Kingdom, and France are also investigating possibilities, with Japan leading the way, according to Xidian. While electronic elements of solar-from-space tech have been tested previously, Xidian claims that the Chinese researchers are the first one to successfully test a full-system model.
